Our Researchers
OMIKS is built on rare depth. Two researchers trained at the world’s leading biological institutes, working as one office.
They hold your project to the same standard that reached Science, Cell Host & Microbe, Current Biology, Nature Communications and PNAS. Independently or together, matched to what the project needs.
Dr Michael Giolai
Genomics & Computational Method Development
Michael works on technical problems that don’t yet have an established method – across sequence and structure alike: genome assembly, transcriptomics and spatial transcriptomics at the sequence level; metagenomics and protein structure modelling beyond it. His work on plant immune-gene trade-offs, showing that a larger immune repertoire can come at a direct cost to growth, appeared in Science in 2024. His metagenomic methods have since been used to detect pathogens directly from open-air field samples, not only under controlled lab conditions, and his sequencing methods are protected under a 2024 international patent.
Dr Anita Bollmann-Giolai
Multi-Omics Strategy & Systems Biology
Anita works across layers of biological data – genomic and expression signals within a single system; microbiomes, environmental and metagenomic data, and ionomics across systems – tied together by the computational methods linking them. Her work combines these layers to find the mechanism no single result shows alone. She contributed to a 2021 Nature Communications study resolving parallel adaptation across plant populations to one shared mechanism, and built a microbiome profiling method now used at scale across projects – the same instinct that separates a real connection between results from a coincidental one.
